An early morning dip in Angourie's Ocean Pool is an incredibly invigorating way to start the day if you are lucky enough to be in the area for sunrise. Public toilets, cold shower and a grassy picnic area on-site make it a great place to spend the day at. From the carpark, a paved-path leads to the ocean, winding over and past Angourie's well-known Blue Pool. The Angourie Blue & Green pools were formed in 1899 when a pursuit to extract bluestone, used to form the Clarence River mouth wall, came to a halt following an underground spring flooding the quarry. The quarry was then abandoned for mining and instead, attracted popularity as a swimming hole. As the pools are fresh water, they at times during the warmer months are subject to algal bloom, making them unsuitable for swimming. Local council keeps tabs on algae levels however and posts signs in the area during these times. The Ocean Pool is however constantly flushed with salt water when tides are in and is safe to swim all year round!
